8th Grade Reading Program: 2ndQuarter
Triple Play! It's all about GENRES!
Students are required to complete a triple play during the 9-week grading period by reading three books across, down, or diagonally on the card.Students may not use books they read in the Virginia Readers’ Choice or Accelerated Reader programs and in enrichment classes in previous years. Also, books being read in Reading Class, books used for AR this year, and books that have been made into movies do not count. No picture books. The point is that you need to read something new and different!
Students will report on the books by doing a “Book Rap” with Miss Goll or Mrs. Heaney when they visit the MediaCenter during the time of their language arts classes. You MUST have your book at the time of the Book Rap.
Once the pledge begins in the morning, book raps cease. After all buses and walkers have been dismissed, there is no guarantee that Miss Goll or Mrs. Heaney will be available for book raps.
Each time a student has read and reported on a book, a mark will be placed in the appropriate box on the card.
When a student completes a triple play, he or she will get to spin the prize wheel and win a small reward.
At the end of the grading period, language arts teachers will collect the Triple Play Cards from the MediaCenter. Each student’s efforts for the nine weeks will be reflected in his/her language arts grade.
If there is a line, more than 1 book may not be done at the same time. The student may do one book rap and then go to the back of the line to do the next book rap.
Deadlines/Specific Requirements: See the information sheet given during Media class, OR see Section Files below, for dates and requirements specific to your Language Arts class and teacher. Extended English must read 6 books on the card.
